Many teenagers are unenthusiastic about wearing braces, finding them uncomfortable and unattractive. In such cases, Invisalign may be a viable option instead. Invisalign is an alternative method for correcting mild to moderate cases of crooked teeth, gaps, overcrowded teeth, overbite, and underbite. It is often recommended for adults, but it can be designed to work for teenagers as well. Invisalign Teen uses the same type of aligners as traditional Invisalign; they are made out of a clear plastic, and each one is carefully designed to fit the patient’s smile at a specific point in the treatment. The aligners are created based on digital impressions and scans of the mouth, and the number of aligners provided depends on what kind of changes need to be made.
Each aligner is worn for roughly two weeks and should stay in the mouth for about 20 to 22 hours every day. To help the process, each aligner comes with a small blue dot referred to as a compliance indicator. As the aligner is worn, the dot will slowly start to change color; this gives parents an easy way to check that their teen is sticking with the treatment plan.
Like braces, Invisalign teen allows teenagers to enjoy the health and aesthetic benefits that come with a straighter smile. The treatment does offer several advantages over traditional orthodontics that make it a more attractive option to many patients:
