Gum disease comes with many different symptoms, and gum recession is one of the most common ones. When gums pull away from the teeth, the rough root surface becomes exposed, increasing the risk of sensitivity and further infection. To overcome this problem with recession, our team can perform a specific gum disease therapy in Lake Zurich known as the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique. This procedure does not involve complex and drastic treatment with a prolonged recovery. Through this treatment, we gently reposition the gums where they were before. Unlike a gum graft, which relies on scalpels and sutures to restore gum tissue, the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique entails a minimally invasive procedure to treat gum recession.
With a small needle or “pinhole,” our periodontist inserts a specialized instrument into the gum tissue, stretching and loosening the tissue. Then, we gently cover and protect the exposed tooth root without sutures, making recovery much faster and easier.
The primary purpose of the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is to address gum recession, which can occur as a result of gum disease as well as smoking, poor oral hygiene, aggressive tooth brushing, genetics, hormonal changes, and teeth grinding.
With traditional gum grafting, overcoming recession can often take multiple appointments and procedures to get the desired results. However, with Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, we can easily complete treatment in just one appointment—even with multiple areas of gum recession.
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a unique treatment unlike other periodontal therapies, which means it offers unique benefits. While traditional grafts are more invasive procedures utilizing scalpels and sutures, this treatment is performed with a small needle and specialized dental instruments.
